SQL Server Reports

Some large organizations implement Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS). This is a robust set of tools for creating and displaying reports from a variety of database types (SQL Server, Oracle, etc.). Reports are created, usually by IT staff, and made available to users via a web interface.

WRDB has added the ability to display prepared SSRS reports using the Microsoft Report Viewer tool. With the help of your IT department, you can configure exactly what reports you want to access; the reports will normally be created using data in your WRDB database, but don't have to be.

Configure your reports using this form:

The Server Name is the full path to the SSRS server formatted like: http://servername/ReportServer

Normally Windows Integrated Security will be used (in which your Windows login controls your access to the SSRS server). If not, uncheck this box and enter the server username and password.

The Report Path identifies the path that all reports can be found in formatted like /Folder/Subfolder/

Timeout controls how long a report will run before an error occurs.

The grid is then used to list all reports you want to have access to; enter a report description and actual SSRS name. The description will be used to list available reports on the menu.

It can sometimes be challenging to get the SSRS configuration correct; click the View Report to display the currently selected report in the Report Viewer:

Using this form, you can print and export the report in a variety of formats.
